Bespoke wall top benches for new external space
SLB, a global leader in engineering, approached us to design and manufacture four bespoke benches for a new landscaped area that incorporated a pyramid skylight to the new plant room below.
The design brief called for wall-mounted benches that would sit comfortably within the curved Cotswold stone walling.Building benches that follow the exact curvature of a structure is always challenging so it was decided that to make sure a seamless fit was achieved we would manufacture a 2mm steel jig profile. This also allowed the contractor to keep on schedule forming the walls before the benches where delivered. Upon arrival there was a seamless fit that took no time at all.
FSC-certified hardwood timber was selected for the benches, emphasising sustainability while providing durability and aesthetic appeal. The timber’s natural grain and rich tones harmonised with the Cotswold stone, creating a cohesive blend of organic materials.
The benches were wall-mounted, with concealed fixings that maintained the clean, minimalist aesthetic. This approach also enhanced the durability of the installation, reducing the impact of weathering and ensuring long-term stability.
SLB expressed great satisfaction with the final product, praising the precision and quality of the workmanship. The integration of the benches into the landscape helped achieve the desired balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal, contributing to the overall success of the new plant room’s design.
The project successfully met SLB’s objectives of softening the industrial site while offering an inviting space for employees and visitors to enjoy
