Exeter benches for industrial estate’s green space

Exeter benches for industrial estate’s green space

With the continued development of Leigh Road Industrial Estate Slough, funds were raised to help create a small green space in this busy commercial district. Benchmark Street Furniture worked closely with the landscape architect to help design a scheme that achieved the client’s ambitions but also came within budget. To offset the urban environment they opted for the Exeter street furniture range which consists of large hardwood timbers in a regular block design with a minimal frame. This gives the bench a natural yet contemporary feel. This range of street furniture can be adapted to suit individual project needs and can be produced to any length, width and height, be it straight or curved (to any radius). The framework can be specified to co-ordinate with the space, corten steel, stainless steel or powder coated. Timbers are typically FSC hardwoods but can be specified to suit design and budget. The finished scheme is a simple design that has given the local workforce a new green space to relax and enjoy.   Link to products...

Standard, yet not Standard street furniture

Standard, yet not Standard street furniture

Preston City Council recently undertook the regeneration of the graded 2 listed Moor park. As part of the project a revamp of the skate park was undertaken to include a curved bench built into a low railing that formed the perimeter of the park. Although this is standard item of street furniture, we where asked to slightly adapt the design to include a larger external tube as well a box section leg to coordinate with other aspects of the project. Along with the design changes we offered a galvanised finish to match the railings. Many elements of our street furniture and finishes can be adapted to meet the individual requirements of our...

A friendly bike stand

A friendly bike stand

A number of us at Benchmark street furniture are keen cyclists, we even spend our weekends doing it. Whilst trying to find an adequate hydration stop at the end of a ride we where faced with some very rough, trendy, Corten steel cycle stands, we had no choice but to very tentatively rest our pride and joys against them. This how ever did get us thinking, how easy would it be to remove the possibility of scratching your beloved bike, whilst still offering an interesting stand to the townscape? After a little thought we came up with this design, the Friendly Bike...

Stainless steel picnic sets

Stainless steel picnic sets

With the development of the West Lothian Council offices and surrounding busy green spaces, we where asked to design up some bespoke stainless steel picnic tables and benches. It was decided to use a perforated steel top to aid with drainage and create a level surface that could be used for simple lunches or informal meetings. Curved coordinated benches where design to allow for easy access as well as space for wheel chairs. By using 316 stainless steel these products will outlast their timber counterparts by many years, matched with the fact that steel is 100% recyclable they are not only more cost effect but also environmentally friendly. Bespoke tables and benches for Falmouth University

Bespoke tables and benches for Falmouth University

Late last summer we where contacted by 2020 Projects to help with the refurbishment of the Fox cafe at Falmouth University. The brief was to create circular tables to surround potted trees with bench’s to seat up to 8 people. With the space often being used for a variety of events, all the items needed to be free standing to allow easy removal when required. With this in mind, plus a tight budget we decided that a bespoke solution would be the best route to take. 316 stainless steel tube provided the framework for both the benches and the tables, as it give us the ability to produce the simple curves that formed a pleasingly protective edge to the timber slats. Through the efficient use of these materials and carefully designed components we where able to create the desired products, on time and under within budget. Although the furniture was situated in an internal area we still opted to use FSC Iroko slats as this class of timber is very stable and not prone to splits. They where then finished with an interior grade oil to offer a long lasting protective coating at against tea and coffee stains. The finished products allow for great flexibility yet retains an aesthetic design that will last for years to...
Bar stools for the University of Nottingham

Bar stools for the University of Nottingham

Having previously supplied the University of Nottingham with a number of 316 stainless steel picnic tables and stools, we were asked to create a new design for the renovated Mooch Bar terraced area. Collaborating with an interior designer at CPMG Architects we came up with a number of designs, including a timber and galvanised version as well as a powder coated mild steel option. In the end, to coordinate with the rest of the sites around the campus, a straight up stainless steel with a perforated top was decided upon. The addition of a laser cut footrest and strengthened fixing plates gave the stools an industrial and robust look. With everything Benchmark manufactures being made to order, we can quickly and efficiently design and cost up individual projects. This allows the architect or designer the freedom to create interesting and unique items of external furniture without the bespoke cost. Photos credited to CPMG...
Seaford Martello Tower – curved Shoreline benches

Seaford Martello Tower – curved Shoreline benches

The historic no74 Martello tower in Seaford, built as part of the defences during the Napoleonic wars, is an important and prominent landmark in this busy seaside town. In 2004 it was restored to become a museum for the town’s records, as well as hosting a number of historical exhibits. The tower is in constant use and real focal point, so keeping it looking its best and making the surrounding public realm inviting is high on the agenda. Benchmark street furniture were approached to create some curved benches to be fixed to the sea defence surrounding the tower. With a solid concrete wall to secure in to, a cantilever design was made possible. 316 stainless steel laser profiles where cut that not only supported the curved benches but allowed for Iroko slat back rests and the addition of commemorative plaques. Being meters away from the sea the use of resilient materials was key thus marine grade 316 stainless steel was the only option. With the plan of further benches to be installed this new and inviting space will only add to the all ready popular sea front...
Uckfield town centre improvements – Curved Street furniture

Uckfield town centre improvements – Curved Street furniture

In the recent months East Sussex CC have been carrying out a variety of improvements to Uckfield High Street. This consisted of widening the pavements with York stone and the addition of new seats and benches. Part of the design concept was for S-benches and due to our knowledge of curved street furniture we where asked to come with some designs. Our Baseline range can be configured to any curvature and length so fitting it in to the narrow space was no problem. A further consideration was the incline of the high street so much longer legs were designed to accommodate for these changing levels. Other features include small studs on the outer edges and armrests to deter skateboarders. They where finished in a tough black Plascoat to compliment the other elements of this revitalised High...
