West Bromwich Metro Plaza – seating and railing

West Bromwich town centre has recently undergone a programme of improvements to attract more shoppers and investors into the area. The latest phase is the transformation of the area surrounding the Central Metro Link into a well thought out landscape plaza serving the transport links.

Benchmark had previously worked with Sandwell’s Council design team on the seating requirements for Duchess Street where items from the Centerline and Shoreline ranges were installed. The company was then asked to help in the design and manufacture of railings, handrails and more seating for the new plaza.

The scheme entailed some intricate curved handrails to steps leading down to the Metro, and also curved barrier railings, all of which were manufactured from 316 stainless steel.

The seating needed to be robust yet in keeping with the overall scheme so 3m long versions of the Centerline CL003 seat were again selected in a co-ordinated approach to the rejuvenation of town centre.

The finished project, which is also adjacent to Sandwell College and bus network, makes for a modern and cohesive vibrant area that will serve the community for many years to come.
